Who needs stairs when you’ve got a two-story tube slide leading down to the lobby? That’s what a Silicon Valley internet company was thinking when they gave us a call. (Of course, they actually DO have stairs; they’re just not as fast!)
Barbara created a design for an adult slide spanning the 18 feet down to the first floor, working around the existing mezzanine level. In addition to being safe and fun, the design also had to accommodate people of all abilities, so Barbara included a wheelchair transfer platform at the top.
Once the design was approved, we spent a day installing the pre-fabricated parts. But before we let anyone whiz down the slide, we called in our playground safety consultant, MaryLou Iverson. For the past 24 years, MaryLou has been inspecting playgrounds across the country and she shares our commitment to combining active play and safety. To that end, we covered the area around the top and the bottom of the slide with rubber surfacing.
Welcome to Silicon Valley! Wheeeeee……
